Filter Recommendation
Filter Recommendation
Pump life increases with fluid purity. Micropump® recommends using as fine a mesh as possible. The recommendations below are based on Micropump’s experience in optimizing pump life.
Filter Location
Open System: Inlet side of pump
Closed-Loop System: Inlet or outlet side of pump
Filter Type/Size
5 Micron** (≤2 psid [0.14 bar] pressure drop)
Canister style (Fig. 2) or Fine Mesh style (Fig. 1)
40 Micron* – Soft particles (≤ 4 psid [0.27 bar] pressure drop) 5 Micron* – Hard particles (≤ 4 psid [0.27 bar] pressure drop)
Canister style
40 Micron* – Soft particles (≤ 2 psid [0.14 bar] pressure drop) 5 Micron* – Hard particles (≤ 2 psid [0.14 bar] pressure drop)
Canister style
50 Micron* (no pressure drop)
Mesh style
*Micron = 4 x 10-5 inches **Micron = 10-6 meter

Troubleshooting
If units will not prime:
- Reduce pressure drop across filters
- Remove clogged passages or debris
When pumping higher viscosity fluids:
- Increase the size of the filter to ensure pressure drop stays within an acceptable range
